UP ATS arrests Maulana Kaleem Siddiqui in a religious conversion racket case
The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad arrested Maulana Kaleem Siddiqui from Meerut in a religious conversion racket case.
Maulana Kaleem Siddiqui is an Islamic Scholar and one of the biggest clerics from western Uttar Pradesh. He has been arrested in connection with India's largest religious conversion racket which was busted by the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of Uttar Pradesh Police on Tuesday night.
Uttar Pradesh ADG, Prashant Kumar said, "Mulana Kaleem had direct links with mass unlawful conversion racket which was busted by ATS earlier this year. Kaleem not only funded and oversaw conversion activities but also used his trust to fund madrasas involved in the unlawful conversion. He was brought to the ATS headquarters after being produced in a court."
He added, "Investigation shows that Maulana Kaleem Siddiqui's trust received Rs. 3 crores in foreign funding including ₹1.5 from crore Bahrain," said Kumar, adding that six teams of ATS have been formed to investigate the case."
Maulana Kaleem Siddiqui was taken into custody while he was traveling back to his home at village Fulat in Muzaffarnagar after attending a programme in Meerut.
The locals got angry and launched a protest outside Lisari Gate police station immediately to know about the whereabouts of Maulana.
Siddiqui has been running the conversion activities through his NGOs/trusts situated in Delhi, mainly Shah Waliullah Trust.
He received foreign funds from Darul Ulomm Deoband. The funds were used in the construction of Madrassas in Haryana and Punjab.
AAP's Amanatullah Khan slammed the arrest by calling it “atrocity on Muslims”.
