Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated across the nation on 2nd October on the birthday anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. People affectionately call him Bapu. He was one of the most powerful and beloved leaders not only in India but across the world.

Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary every year is marked by prayers and tributes across the nation, and students are seen taking part in dress competitions, speech, and essay competitions organized by schools, colleges, and other organizations on this occasion. Bapu, who played an important part in India's independence, was known for his non-breakable principles of non-violence and truth and had begun implementing them very early in his life.

With a fitting leadership to the freedom struggle in India, Gandhi played a pivotal role in securing freedom for India from tyrannical British rule. Gandhi Ji believed in non-violence and was a great leader. Mahatma Gandhi is known as the ‘ Father of the Nation’ because he fought against Britishers with a dream of independent India in his eyes.

He led nationwide campaigns like extending women's rights, ending untouchability, easing poverty, Swaraj, and many others.The day has an international significance. The United Nations General Assembly decided to observe October 2 as International Day of Non-Violence every year.
