Lakhimpur-Kheri: Eight people killed including Four Farmers in violence
Violence broke out in the Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday where eight people including four farmers have died. Farmers were protesting to block UP deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya's visit to Banbirpur village.
Violence broke out after a jeep ran over the protesting farmers and thus killing eight people, police officials said.
Rakesh Tikait, Leader of Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) claimed that the farmers were attacked when they were returning after staging a protest against the new farm laws. He also claimed that the people in the convoy opened fire on farmers in which some people died and some were injured.
Prashant Kumar (ADG) rushed to the spot along with other senior officials. He said that he could confirm the deaths and the exact situation only after reaching the site and heavy deployment of police had already been done in the Tikonia area to prevent any further trouble.
Tikonia is around 70 km from the Lakhimpur Kheri district.
