Covaxin gets WHO approval

World Health Organization (WHO) has approved India's first COVID-19 vaccine i.e. Covaxin.

Covaxin is a Covid-19 vaccine which is developed by Bharat Biotech and is the first Made in India vaccine. Till now, WHO did not approve Coaxin because the company failed to show the reports of the test for the third phase of the vaccine approval test. 

However, now WHO has approved Covaxin just for emergency use. Covaxin has been added to the Emergency Use Listing (EUL) on Wednesday.

The approval of Covaxin is a major relief for all the people who took the Covaxin shot and were facing restrictions in traveling abroad. But now, those who have received both doses of Covaxin can travel abroad without having to undergo quarantine.

The vaccine has 77.8% efficacy against the Covid-19 and 65.2% efficacy against the Delta variant. Delta variant was first detected in India and has now emerged as the most contagious and dominant variant globally.
