Diwali 2021: History, date, puja timing, and everything you need to know

Diwali, the festival of lights, is one of the biggest and most auspicious festivals celebrated by Hindus with much interest and passion. People start preparing for Diwali a week in advance. They decorate their homes with lights, flowers, and diyas, and make rangolis. This year, Diwali will be celebrated on Thursday, November 4, 2021.



History

Diwali is celebrated as it is believed that on this day Lord Rama returned to Ayodhya after an exile of 14 years. Lord Rama defeated demon Ravana on the day of Dussehra and met with Goddess Sita. Once their exile is over, they all head following to Ayodhya, where Lord Rama is finally crowned as the King of Ayodhya. To welcome the king, Ayodhya was illuminated. Diwali celebrates this occasion.

Puja Timing


On this special day, families also worship Goddess Lakshmi, who is the Goddess of wealth. Devotees believe that if they perform the Lakshmi puja they will be granted good health, wealth, and prosperity.

 

The favorable time to conduct Lakshmi Puja will begin at  6:09 pm and it will end at 8:04 pm. Meanwhile, the duration of the puja will be 1 hour 56 minutes.

 

Moreover, the Amavasya Tithi on Diwali begins at 6:03 am on November 4, 2021, and ends at 2:44 am on November 5, 2021.
