Ready to implement complete lockdown to control pollution: Delhi government tells Supreme Court

The Delhi Government has told the Supreme Court in an affidavit that it is ready to take measures like complete lockdown to control the air pollution but adds that it will have only a limited impact.

The Supreme Court today held a hearing on air pollution in the national capital Delhi. However, the Delhi government has filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court stating that it is ready for a lockdown.

The APP govt. has told the Supreme Court that it is ready for a  complete lockdown in this context. However, the Delhi government said in an affidavit filed in the Supreme Court on Monday that it was "ready to take steps like a complete lockdown to control local air pollution". However, the government has said that such a move would make sense if the NCR is implemented across neighboring states.

Pollution in Delhi has touched alarming levels due to the burning of wheat husks in the fields, air pollution from vehicles, coal-fired power plants outside the city, other industries, open burning of garbage and dust. Air quality in Delhi is 323, which may cause respiratory illness with prolonged exposure. The effect may be more pronounced in people with heart and lung diseases.

The current level of air quality in the National Capital is likely to affect your health. People are recommended to avoid intense activities outdoors and stay away from sources of pollution, such as heavy traffics on roads, open fires, and construction sites. Staying indoors with an activated air filtration system would be most suitable for your good health
