IMD issues yellow alert as Mumbai witnesses heavy rainfalls

Mumbai recorded rainfalls of 30.1 mm in November this year which is the second-highest in a decade. The highest rains in a single month were recorded in November 2019 which was measured to be 109.3 mm while all the other years recorded less than 5 mm of rainfall.

The 30.1 mm of rains were recorded by the IMD Santacruz observatory out of which the maximum rainfall of 24.7 mm was recorded in November 2021-22.

Officials said that the unseasonal rains are expected to continue. So, a yellow alert was issued for Mumbai, Palghar, and Thane on Wednesday. These heavy rains are expected to continue till the weekend.

Shubhangi Bhute, IMD scientist said, "A cyclonic circulation over Southeast Arabian sea and adjoining Maldives Lakshadweep areas now lies over Southeast Arabian Sea and adjoining Lakshadweep area. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the east-central Arabian Sea off the Maharashtra coast during the next 24 hours. This will bring rains to the Konkan region including parts of Mumbai."

IMD also issued a fisherman warning for the next five days for all the fishermen along the coast of Goa and Maharashtra. The minimum temperature recorded was 20 degrees. However, the minimum temperature recorded on Monday was 23 degrees  and 23.8 degrees on Tuesday.
