India to vaccinate 15-18 age children from January 3, boosters for above 60 years, and healthcare workers

While addressing the nation on 26th December, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that children who are between the age of 15 years to 18 years will be eligible for COVID-19 vaccination. It will be started from January 3 next year.

The prime minister also said precautionary doses would be given to healthcare workers, frontline workers, and to those people who are above 60 years with comorbidities from 10 January.

During his address, Prime Minister Modi also requested the people not to panic amid the Omicron threat, remain cautious and follow all Covid norms such as wearing masks and maintaining social distancing.

Omicron

“Regarding infection with Omicron, it does not necessarily lead to severe symptomatic clinical disease. In India, about a third of all detected cases were mildly symptomatic and the rest were asymptomatic; therefore, the treatment for Omicron-infected symptomatic individuals remains the same. It does not change from that for Delta or Alpha or even Beta,” told Balram Bhargava, director-general of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

The no. of Omicron cases in India increased to 415 in the last 24 hours. In terms of total COVID-19 cases, India recorded 7,189 new cases and 387 deaths in the last 24 hours ending 8am Saturday.

The way the government of India is taking care of us, we should also make sure that we wear masks, avoid crowded places and follow government COVID norms and regulations.
