Is AKTU a good university?: Honest Review by a student

AKTU (Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University) is a government university of Uttar Pradesh. It was established on 8 May 2000. That was the day when the worst phase of the life of the students who took admission to AKTU started.

WHY AKTU

AKTU is the only university in India that does not care about its students, all they can think of is looting the students in the name of exams and several other things. Regrettably, I am also a suffering student of AKTU (currently in 4th year), and every day I ask myself a question that why the hell did I take admission to this university. Accept it or not, taking admission to AKTU was the worst decision of my life. They don't care about the future of their students even a little bit. In my college, placements drives are going on and I have seen the companies having eligibility criteria as 85% and above throughout academics and offering a stipend of just Rs.5000/month. Yes, you read that right, only FIVE THOUSAND RUPEES a month.

In the first semester, I had a subject named Programming for Problem Solving in which we were taught C programming language but only theoretically, no practical knowledge was given. In the whole semester we were taken to the computer lab only 3 to 4 times and after that our "prestigious" AKTU thinks that we will become MASTER CODERS. After that, not even a single programing language has been taught to us.

TALKING ABOUT SYLLABUS, EXAMS, AND RESULTS

In AKTU, students are taught subjects that have no connection to their respective branches. For eg, I am pursuing B.Tech in Computer Science and I have had subjects like Constitution of India, Universal Human Values, Indian Tradition, Culture and Society, Renewable Energy Resources.

Talking about exams, AKTU is the only university that conducted offline exams during the 2nd wave of COVID-19. They kept on postponing the exams due to the extension of lockdown. The exams which were to be conducted in November were then conducted in March. 

They even made us fill a self-declaration form forcefully that if we get sick or get COVID due to exams, that would be our responsibility and the university will not be responsible for it. We were told that if we don't fill the self-declaration form then we will not be allowed to sit in the next exam and will be marked absent. 

The staff at the AKTU HQ themselves are attending their meetings online because they are afraid of COVID but they think that the students are CORONAPROOF. This is the thinking of the GREAT MINDS running such a big university.

Checking of the answer sheets is done in a manner so that maximum students get backlogs so that they apply for rechecking of the paper. And they have prepared a whole menu of options if one gets a backlog.

1. Rechecking of paper: Rs.2500/subject

2. Retotalling of marks: Rs.1000/subject

3. If you want to see that where your marks are deducted (soft copy): Rs.300/subject

So many students can't even afford to get their copies rechecked because of the LOW prices. This is another way of looting the students in the name of education.

The university also does not provide the mark sheets or report cards on time. I personally have seen so many former AKTU students tagging AKTU on Twitter and asking/begging for their final mark sheets because of which they are unable to find jobs.

During the payment of the fees for the first year, all the students were charged a one-time fee for 24*7 Wi-Fi access (as claimed) but we never got the password to the WiFi. We are also charged Rs.3000 every year in the name of E-Journal Online Subscription Fee but we never got to know that what it is. When we asked the staff members, they also had no idea about what it is.

FINAL REMARKS

You may find many websites claiming that AKTU is the best university for BTech and other courses but their claims are baseless. What you read above is the truth and harsh reality of AKTU.

If you want to waste your money and three or four years of your college life then you can happily take admission to AKTU. If you want a regret-free college life then, please don't and never let anyone get admitted to AKTU.
