Man Beaten To Death After Allegedly Attempted To Commit Sacrilege At Golden Temple In Amritsar
Angry Devotees killed a man after he allegedly attempted to commit sacrilege in the sanctum sanctorum of the Golden Temple in Amritsar, December 18.
The incident occurred at 5.45 pm when evening prayers were taking place at the Golden Temple when this man leaped over the metal railing around the Guru Granth Sahib and allegedly tried to desecrate the Holy Book of the Sikhs with a sword.
Before he could get successful in his attempt he was nabbed by on-duty SGPC employees. According to reports, he caught hold of Sri Sahib (Kirpan, a Sikh religious symbol) and placed feet over Rumala Sahib.
SGPC chief Harjinder Singh Dhami said the person was killed by angry devotees. “It appeared to be a deep-rooted conspiracy to vitiate the atmosphere and bring disgrace to the Sikh faith. The incident required a probe to expose the forces behind it,” he said.
Devotees are requesting the State government to interfere as there were strong indications of such a conspiracy being hatched. The previous day there was a shocking incident of gutka packets being thrown in the holy lake [around the Golden Temple]. But no one did anything nor took any measures to stop such a heinous offense from happening.
